One Stop Career Centers - The total volume of private sector job postings is up
25% from the 4th quarter of 2005 to 4th quarter of 2006 at 92,000. One-Stop Career centers job is to connect customers to these job vacancies.

Governor Patrick Leads Massachusetts Career Day, Thursday October 18, 2007

 

The Massachusetts Career Day was held on October 18, 2007 across the Commonwealth. More than more than 550 employers participated and many, many job seekers visited the 37 One-Stop Career Centters According to Governor Patrick, "A high-skill, high-performance work force is essential for Massachusetts to compete in the global economy. Career Day gives us a chance to let employers know that Career Centers are ready to help employers of any size find the talent they need for their business to thrive."With over 37,000 new jobs added in Massachusetts over the past year, coupled with 92,000 job vacancies, Patrick said that more employers are on the hunt for skilled talent to gain a competitive advantage. Patrick Administration officials including Secretary Bump, Secretary of Health and Human Services JudyAnn Bigby, Undersecretary of Workforce Development Jennifer James Price, Director of Workforce Development David Mackley, Director of Labor George Noel, Director of the Division of Unemployment Assistance Edward Malmborg, Director of the Massachusetts Workforce Investment Board Tamika Correia, Director of the Division of Apprentice Training David Wallace, Division of Occupational Safety Commissioner Laura Marlin, Mass. Commission for the Blind Commissioner Janet LeBreck, Mass. Rehabilitation Commissioner Charles Carr, and Commonwealth Corporation President Nancy Snyder visited Career Center events throughout the Commonwealth. "Career Centers provide a helping hand to every person, at every stage of their career. Career Center can help those transitioning back into the labor force after caring for children, retirees looking for part or full time employment, those looking to change fields and others transitioning back after incarceration," said Secretary Bump.

One Stop Career centers are the centerpiece of the WIBs regional workforce labor exchange strategy. WIBs are responsible as mandated in the Workforce Investment Act, in partnership with the Chief Elected Officials, for selecting, chartering and monitoring the performance of the One Stop Career Centers.
